My father didn’t think I should work with my hands

December 11, 2017 by Kenneth Hart

I looked at the jungle of wires and asked my dad to teach me how they worked.
He would not do it and said that I should learn to hold a flashlight.
I learned how to do that dad. It’s taken most of my life
But I learned how to hold a flashlight
That taught me how things work-

Recipe

December 9, 2017 by Kenneth Hart

Recipe
The sausage of memories-
The nectar of dreams-
The ambrosia of what might be-
The radish of what might have been-
The seasonings of doubt and confidence:
What is for taste, what is for color, where does texture reside?

The comfort of memories-
The promise of dreams-
The enduring reality of the moment-

Prepared by memories and dreams:
The freshness of delight, just off the vine
The taste of opportunity-
The heat of talent-
The coolness of perspective-

The salt and sugar of experience-
The pepper of rejection-
The condiments of friendship-
The soup of family

The second helpings of desire-
The leftovers of remorse-
The endurance of staples-

Is a recipe more than a prediction?
Creating flavor from added ingredients

The uncertainty of environment-
The need for celebration-
The fragile mixture of estranged relations-
A recipe of interaction-
Taking a chance in a melting pot-

The seductive insolence of expectations-
The amusement of the unpredictable-
Blending what we see and what we could have seen
With the vinegar of what we wish to believe-

The protein of life consumed-
The starch and fat of habit-
The unending search for vitamins-
Nourishment and the spirit.

another sometimes

December 2, 2017 by Kenneth Hart

Sometimes metaphors,
arrive through allusions.
Magnificent imagery seems at my fingertips.
The rebirth of revisions,
Sometimes cloud like,
Passing through you as you pass through them.
The sausage of memories-
Almost like a virus, or a wine
Passing through you as you pass through it.
The half-life of the ephemeral-
Eternity found in resemblance,
Like the echo of a song or the memory of a dance.
Memories and dreams
Estranged relations
